Turndown at the Sundial

A quick recap of "Sweetwater Swindle": con man comes to town; con man cons; con man leaves town with police officer's ex-wfie.

But it looks like the story ends in Cottonwood, AZ, at the Sundial Motel. "John Doe" is revealed to be "smooth-talking Todd Joseph Sweet," although he's used Jamie Turpin, Douglass Clegg and Joseph Dragone as aliases. According to the Canadian National Post, he has posed as the heir to a Vegas casino fortune, a real estate magnate, a preacher, and a Navy Seal who "rescued" Jessica Lynch from Iraqi captors. As The Verde Independent is reporting, Laura Meridith — the Sundial's manager — works closely with the Cottonwood police to "screen tenants." And when you've hit the road with a cop's ex, this is not a good thing.

So what've we learned? Avoid the Sundial Motel. We recommend The Annabell Inn just down the road on 7th Street, where Annabell herself makes a tasty breakfast and is happy to act as a tour guide if asked.
