Return of the Flim Flam Men

In North Carolina, a group of con artists are working the change raiser to pretty impressive results, like turning the purchase of a bottle of hand sanitizer at Wal-Mart into a $650 gain. Read more here.

And bonus points to the McDowell News for using flim flam in the opening line, if even just to pull off a somewhat lame rhyme.

Incidentally, Guy Owen's book The Ballad of the Flim-Flam Man (1965) took place in North Carolina. But in that classic, the lead grifter didn't pull the change raiser. Crooked punchboards was his scam of choice.
