Re: Glossary of Grift
Flim-Flam’s not a word you see that much any more. Maybe now and again when reading about politics, but mostly when news refers to con men, it doesn’t get more creative than scams and cons. So we just have to applaud the Associated Press for its piece last week titled Police Search for Flim-Flam Man. The headline’s the best part. The story is just a brief report on a New Hampshire guy who’s been doing The Change Raiser – buying a $2 item with $100 bill and after some fast talking and confusing instructions, walking away with the $98 change and an additional $100.
The last time we remember seeing the term was the 1967 movie starring George C. Scott, which you should try and see, if for no other reason than Scott plays a character with one of the all-time great con artist names (after Todd Robbins) … Mordecai Jones.
