This NBC report on the Secret Shopper Scam seems more interested in showing video of a pathetic-looking victim (hey, that's our job) than actually describing the scam. Since they have decided to leave that part out, here's an explanation. The old saying about "if something appears too good to be true" apparently does apply to getting a check for $5000 and being told you've been hired to spend it on yourself dining in restaurants and shopping.
