Nurse, could you change my sheets?
We'll all be hearing more about healthcare as the elections approach, and we can go on the record now as saying we’re in favor of a universal healthcare system. Apparently, Austrians have a pretty good system of their own, and Michael Moore singled out theirs while promoting his movie Sicko this summer. “Just give us the Austrian plan,” he was quoted saying at the time.
Agreed, but Moore is not our chosen spokesman for this cause. We choose Franz Steiger, an unemployed man from Vienna, who managed to spend three years gaining shelter and meals from almost 100 different hospitals by claiming various ailments, illnesses, and symptoms. That’s three years of living at no cost! The only downside to this somewhat inspirational tale is that what Steiger did is, technically, illegal, and he was recently found out and arrested.
Ironically, if sentenced to jail, he'll be living in another place on someone else's dime.
